Expansion Joint is a movement control instrument design to hold parts together while safely absorbing temperature-induced expansion and contraction of building materials, and vibration, or to allow movement due to ground settlement or seismic activity.

The expansion joint is also referred to as a few different names such as flexible bellow, flexible joint, or even expansion bellows. Often a client will request 1-ply or 2-ply. Ply refers to the thickness and how much pressure those bellows can withstand. These joints are usually welded to flanges for installation between pipings.
